"Scholarships From Heaven"
The Isaiah R. Jernigan Scholarship Fund
The Jernigan family has created The Isaiah R. Jernigan Scholarship Fund in memory of the loss of Isaiah and his mother, Laura on June 11, 2013. (A horrific car accident in which son, Brandon B. Jernigan was a passenger and the only survivor) Life for the family has never been the same, but they know that Isaiah is looking down on them and students involved in the program!
In reality, one of the core thoughts in the design of The STEM Foundation program was that today’s youth and especially Isaiah would be exposed to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math, weekly presentations from STEM professionals and monthly visits to the STEM industry to create a tunnel for inner-city students towards successful careers. (That is exactly what we have done over the last 10 years). Sadly, Isaiah would be 10 years old now and October 2018 would have begun his 1st year in the program. (3rd – 12th grade) But, his legacy will live on in the lives of other youth through this scholarship fund in his name.
Presently, Woodforest National Bank provides the funds for our scholarship fund through a program we titled “Time Banking”. This has been a 5 year program in which the older, 10th – 12th grade students take on “leadership roles” in our delivery of the programming and we bank their participation time into dollars earned towards a scholarship. So far, over 32 students have gone on to higher learning with 3 males this year. (1 young lady is getting another scholarship towards her Masters)
Going forward, we would like to offer you an opportunity to help us keep “Time Banking” active. (If Woodforest National Bank decides to not continue their funding). Please make a donation today in honor of the “The Isaiah R. Jernigan Scholarship Fund” to keep "Scholarships From Heaven" coming.
Thanks in advance for your support!
